NBCM Creates Socially-Distant Ways to Host Iconic Summer Events

After countless brainstorming sessions, multiple outlines designed and quite a bit of math, the NewBo City Market team has devised a way to hold Cedar Rapids' favorite summer events, safely, this summer!

These events are important for the small businesses within the Market and in the surrounding NewBo/ Czech Village neighborhood. Each year, they attract thousands of potential customers to support the small local businesses in the area.

We’ve painted 99 socially-distant squares in the Market’s yard. Each square is eight-feet by eight-feet, spaced six feet apart and will allow for individuals or families to safely experience the Market. Now, we hope the community utilizes them to enjoy the outdoors and support local business.

Rock the Block

This summer, supporting small local businesses is as easy as drinking an Iowa beer, eating some delicious local food and enjoying live music with your “quaran-team” at NewBo City Market!

Rock the Block squares are eight-feet by eight-feet, spaced six feet apart, for up to six

people.

This means up to six people can reserve one $20 spot in our yard and enjoy live music while safely social distancing and supporting the small businesses within the Market.

On June 26, the Market will host the first Rock the Block concert of the season, which will continue through August 28.

Betty Calling will be the first band to grace the Bankers Trust Stage at Rock the Block 2020! This dynamic band specializes in an eclectic mix of music, from the 1960's to the present.

Rock the Block 2020 is supported by Collins Aerospace and Lion Bridge Brewing Company.

Meet Me at the Market

Meet Me at the Market, NewBo City Market’s summer wellness event series, is returning to the Market Yard with yoga and dance classes alternating each week.

Pre-registration is strongly recommended for this free weekly event. Alternating between yoga and dance classes, Meet Me at the Market squares are eight-feet by eight-feet, spaced six feet apart, for one participant to use as they please.

On June 25, the Market will host the first Meet Me at the Market of the season, beginning with Zumba. The weekly program will continue through September.

Pre-registration links will be released on our Facebook page and Eventbrite.

Meet Me at the Market is supported by GreenState Credit Union

Stars & Stripes Week

Stars & Stripes Week is a new event series making its debut at the Market during Fourth of July week this summer! All events will execute social-distancing guidelines, whether outdoors in the Market Yard or indoors.

On July 1 the Market will be the site of Andrew’s Bar Exam Trivia Hosted by CRPride. There are a limited amount of tables available for reservation and all of them will be distanced from each other inside the Market’s Rotary Hall.

On July 3 a cooking with beer class with Lion Bridge Brewing will be hosted inside the Kirkwood kitchen. This event also has a limited amount of tickets available so that we can give each participant an ample amount of space to safely take part in the class while maintaining social-distancing guidelines.

On Independence Day, July 4, Saturday Afternoon Live with SOUL Sacrifice will take place. This new weekend concert series will utilize Rock the Blocks setup and will feature concerts every Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

A free Family Puzzle Party will be in the Market Yard on July 5. This event does not cost anything for families to participate, but pre-registration is strongly recommended. Pre-registration will allow us to more easily maintain our social-distancing efforts in the Market Yard.
