NewBo City Market welcomes The Hangry Lady

Allie Lanham was working as the executive chef of Popoli Ristorante when the pandemic forced its doors to close in December, 2020. That same month she launched her charcuterie business, The Hangry Lady, on Facebook, just in time for the holiday rush.

Now she's opened a physical location inside NewBo City Market. Where she continues to combine her love of artistry and food as she creates eatable works of art of all shapes and sizes.

"At home I didn't have enough space and other brick-and-mortar locations were really expensive. There wasn't a lot of room for expansion in the future either," Allie said, about her search for the perfect space. "I felt like NewBo City Market was the perfect stepping stone."

The Hangry Lady features a menu filled with fresh ingredients and local specialties.

"If I can't make it myself I want to support other local businesses," she said about sourcing her ingredients. Allie sources her meats from Anvil Meat Market, her giant pretzels from Rustic Hearth Bakery, her hummus from Pita'z Mediterranean to name a few.

As a NewBo City Market Shopkeeper, Allie and her business will connect with thousands of customers each and every week.

Shopkeepers like her are the heart of the Market. They are a community of entrepreneurs, developing both their products and skills to scale up and launch new businesses throughout Eastern Iowa. With every successful venture comes the opportunity for new businesses to open inside the Market, so we are constantly searching for that “next big thing at NewBo.”
