Rebecca Roush has owned a business for nearly 20 years in different forms. This week, she will open the Tiny Yarn Shop inside NewBo City Market and join The Hatchery program.
"It is not always easy for a fiber artist to find quality materials and that is why I originally started my business," Rebecca said. "I closed my first brick-and-mortar four years ago. I discovered a little over a year ago that I was not done with that. I started researching reopening the store about a year ago and doors were literally and figuratively closed. This fall [2020] I started thinking seriously again and this time things started coming together in NewBo, hence Tiny Yarn Shop."
Her shop will open on Thursday, April 8, and will feature materials and tools for fiber artists of all kinds.
"I am excited about the community within the NewBo City Market and in the NewBo locale in Cedar Rapids," Rebecca said. "I am looking forward to reconnecting with old customers and friends and making new ones as well."
The Tiny Yarn Shop is the third Shopkeeper to take part in The Hatchery at NewBo City Market, a new Entrepreneurial Development program and expansion of the nonprofit Business Incubator.
This program helps underserved residents of our local community who want to start a food or retail business by reducing barriers to entry and giving them the tools with which to thrive within an entrepreneurial setting.
The Tiny Yarn Shop is now open at NewBo City Market during regular business hours: Thursday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Rebecca's shop will call a new renovated market space "home." These renovations are expected to be completed by early April. You can donate to help the Market finish these renovations so that new Shopkeepers, like Rebecca, are able to start their business with a "clean slate".
