Mississippi Heat first band featured in CSPS + NBCM concert series

Updated: Jun 3, 2021

World-class Chicago Blues Band Mississippi Heat will play at Rock the Block on Friday, June 4th. This concert will be the first of four in a new free concert series, presented by CSPS in partnership with NewBo City Market.

Just across the street from the Market, CSPS Hall is known as Eastern Iowa's center for contemporary art, music and theatre. This free concert series will feature traveling artists from across the country and will be free to attend, as a celebration of what we hope is the beginning of the end of the pandemic.

Led by harmonica master and songwriter Pierre Lacocque, Mississippi Heat’s name is a reflection of Pierre’s reverence for Mississippi’s blues culture and music. The band’s conviction is that there is no deeper music than Delta-inspired blues to express what lies in everyone’s soul.

The band has received world-wide critical acclaim, including from Living Blues Magazine: “Mississippi Heat delivers its traditional urban blues with a freshness, energy and competence that makes them a treasure on today’s Chicago scene.”

Mississippi Heat is known internationally for their passionate blues delivery. Overseas and national touring have been an integral part of their work for decades. The band has appeared at many world-famous festivals including many in the US, Scandinavia, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Canada, Tunisia, Finland, Venezuela and in Mexico, among many others.

The band has made waves on the blues charts by regularly reaching the #1 spot on Living Blues Magazine’s radio charts.

Mississippi Heat will play at Rock the Block on Friday, June 4th starting at 6 p.m. CSPS will also be presenting the concerts on July 16th, August 20th and September 10th. These concerts are free and open to the public. A full lineup can be found at cspshall.org/events.

This event is made possible by the support of Coldwell Banker Hedges Realty and GreenState Credit Union.
