American blues prodigy Shawn Holt will take the Bankers Trust Stage at NewBo City Market on August 20, 2021. This concert will be the second of four in a new free concert series, presented by CSPS in partnership with NewBo City Market.
Just across the street from the Market, CSPS Hall is known as Eastern Iowa's center for contemporary art, music and theatre. This free concert series will feature traveling artists from across the country and will be free to attend, as a celebration of what we hope is the beginning of the end of the pandemic.
Shawn Holt is the son of legendary Blues Legend Magic Slim. He started playing the blues at the age of 17, when he went on the road with his father and his band, The Teardrops. Shortly after this tour, Shawn realized his "genetic destiny" and formed his own band. He has been watching, learning and playing blues ever since.
Shawn Holt officially became a Teardrop when his father was hospitalized during an east coast tour, he stepped up to the microphone and continued the tradition.
In 2014 Shawn Holt and The Teardrops won the Blues Blast Music Award for "New Artist Debut Album for "Daddy Told Me" on Blind Pig Records.
Shawn Holt & the Teardrops will play at Rock the Block on Friday, August 20th, starting at 6 p.m. CSPS will also be presenting the concert on September 10th. These concerts are free and open to the public. A full lineup can be found at cspshall.org/events.
This event is made possible by the support of Coldwell Banker Hedges Realty and GreenState Credit Union.
