Welcome back Caribbean Kitchen; the return of a beloved Shopkeeper

Caribbean Kitchen, a restaurant that opened along with NewBo City Market in 2012, has returned as a Shopkeeper after venturing into the food truck world for nearly five years.

Owner Patrick Rashed has been working in the restaurant business since the age of 12, cultivating a passion for authentic Jamaican cuisine in New York City after moving there from his native Jamaica.

Caribbean Kitchen focusses on "simple but extremely delicious" food, according to Patrick.

"Even though I'm Jamaican I want to introduce people to a lot of different flavors of the Caribbean," he said, adding that his menu will include Haitian, Cuban and Puerto Rican cuisine.

"It's so surreal that I'm back here," Patrick said. "But this place just feels like home to me."

As a NewBo City Market Shopkeeper, Patrick and his business will connect with thousands of customers each and every week.

Caribbean Kitchen will begin serving customers on August 27, 2021, and will continue to operate as a food truck outside of the Market.

Shopkeepers like Patrick are the heart of the Market. They are a community of entrepreneurs, developing both their products and skills to scale up and launch new businesses throughout Eastern Iowa. With every successful venture comes the opportunity for new businesses to open inside the Market, so we are constantly searching for that “next big thing at NewBo.”
